Mike Rowe: ‘CNN, Fox Not Just News Outlets, But Nonfiction Outlets’

141014111252-mike-rowe-smiling-hat-story-topCNN’s “Somebody’s Gotta Do It” host Mike Rowe was the guest for an “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit, and took plenty of questions about various dirty jobs he’s worked in the past and the new job he’s working at CNN. Asked about the transition to being part of a news network, Rowe suggested the old concept of news programming is evolving. “It occurred to me that networks like FOX and CNN were not just news outlets, but fundamentally, nonfiction outlets,” Rowe said. “CNN, in particular, was very interested in exploring alternative forms of programming, very similar to DIRTY JOBS.”

Rowe says fitting into a nightly lineup that includes Anderson Cooper, Erin Burnett and Wolf Blitzer has been effortless. “They’ve been great to work with…And as long as headlines like Ebola, and ISIS, and terrorism, and natural disasters don’t completely dominate the landscape, I think there will be room for SOMEBODY’S GOTTA DO IT and other shows like it.”
