Meredith Vieira Talks Leaving ‘Today,’ and That ‘Jerk’ Matt Lauer

By Alex Weprin

NBC “Today” co-anchor Meredith Vieira appeared on “The Tonight Show” last night, and talked to Jay Leno about her decision to leave the show, as well as her colleagues.

“I love the show, but it is a very difficult show to do, the hours are tough and I want to spend more time with my family right now,” she said, adding that she decided to leave in January… before backtracking a bit.

She also talked about her co-anchor Matt Lauer’s tendency to play practical jokes on her, right before he played another one. “Jerk,” she joked, when asked by Leno what word she would use to describe him.
