Melissa McCarthy, As Sean Spicer, Helps Make SNL Saturday Night’s No. 1 Show

Last night’s Saturday Night Live was the No. 1 telecast of the night on the broadcast networks in both metered-market households and in the A18-49 demo. The 5.0 household rating in the 56 largest metered markets is the best since the first post-election show on Nov. 12. The 2.5 in A18-49 rating matches the show’s high since that Nov. 12 episode.

Last night’s show was hosted by by Kristen Stewart with musical guest Alessia Cara, but it was a sketch in which Melissa McCarthy played White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, that got some of the biggest laughs–and social media traction–of the night. If you haven’t seen it, here it is:

Weekend Update also used a clip of Bill O’Reilly‘s upcoming interview with Pres. Trump, which had premiered a few hours earlier on Jesse Watters‘ show. In the clip, O’Reilly said about Russia’s president, “Putin’s a killer.” To which the president replied, “We got a lot of killers. What, you think our country’s so innocent?

SNLBOR“So, the sitting president of the United States said the U.S. government is a bunch of killers?” said Weekend Update co-anchor Michael Che. “I mean — he’s not wrong. But, you’re supposed to sugarcoat it. If a kid’s dog dies you don’t tell them it got hit by a car. You tell them it went to a farm upstate. You don’t tell them you put it down because it bit a lady with a good lawyer.”
