Megyn Kelly Waited for ‘Lull’ in Attacks Before Requesting Trump Interview

By Mark Joyella

In an appearance on Live with Kelly and Michael Monday morning, Fox News host Megyn Kelly talked about landing the interview with Donald Trump for her upcoming prime time special on the Fox Broadcasting network.

Kelly told co-hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan that for many months, during Trump’s repeated personal attacks, she did not reach out to him. “He was angry for so long, and I didn’t want to reach out to him while he was angry … there was a lull in the attacks in April, and I seized upon it.”

Kelly says the Fox interview presents her first conversation with Trump about his anger, his attacks, and the question at the first Republican presidential debate that started it all. In their first meeting at Trump Tower, Kelly says “one thing we did not discuss was anything that had happened between us.”

In a clip of the interview Kelly shared Monday, she asks Trump about his anger towards her. “Was that real, or was that strategy?”

“I have great respect for you that you were able to call me and say ‘Let’s get together, let’s talk.’ To me, I would not have done that,” Trump said.

Megyn Kelly Presents airs May 17 on Fox.
