Meghan McCain Makes an Inspiring Return to The View

It has been a hard year for Meghan McCain (to put it mildly), so I think it’s fair to forgive her for getting emotional after she received an extraordinary amount of applause from the studio audience, and love from her co-hosts today on The View.

Today was McCain’s first day back at The View table since the passing of her father, the late Arizona Sen. John McCain, back in August.

“I really want to thank all of America with being so kind with my family,” said McCain. “He wanted me to come back here, which is why I’m here.”

She spoke about all of the love she and her family have received from all different types of people across the country.

“It made me so inspired that the ideals my father espoused through his career are the ideals of America,” she remarked. “And I think there was a lot of talk about what died with him. And I am here today to tell you — it didn’t. It is alive and well!”

She also got especially emotional talking about the support Whoopi Goldberg had given her over the past year, and said that her father “loved you…he really loved you, Whoopi.”

She also told a light hearted story about the newest co-host on The View, Abby Huntsman. McCain and Huntsman have known each other for years, going back to their HuffPo days.

She later gave a shout out to Joe Biden and Joe Lieberman. “Those two men have carried me through this experience, and I just want to thank them for being uncles to me…”
