May Ratings: CNN HLN “Fastest Growing;” Beats MSNBC Again; Grace Up 190%

Surpassing MSNBC, CNN Headline News recorded double-digit audience growth year-over-year and is the “fastest growing cable news network across the board,” according to a CNN press release.

HLN beat MSNBC in total day and primetime in both total viewers and the 25-54 demographic in May, thanks in part to Nancy Grace, who generated “triple digit audience growth.”

In total day, HLN increased its ratings 15% in P2+ and 25% in the 25-54 demo. In primetime, HLN increased its total viewership by 82% (or 112%, if you look at Monday-Friday numbers).

> The 8pm timeslot, hosted by Grace, is up 190% in total viewers and 148% in the demo over May 2004. Grace averaged 498,000 viewers last month. Her 10pm replay has also doubled the ratings for that timeslot.

> “In May, Mon-Sun total day, HLN outperformed MSNBC by 12% in P2+ (210k vs. 188k) and 19% in P25-54 (94k vs. 79k),” the press release states. “In Mon-Sun primetime, HLN outdelivered MSNBC by 11% in P2+ (317k vs. 286k) and 2% in P25-54 (111k vs. 109k).”
