CNN has named Marcus Mabry its new senior vp of digital editorial and programming.

Mabry will be responsible for the CNN Digital Global Programming, Features, and Visuals teams in this role. The CNN Opinion, CNN Style, and CNN Travel sub-brands also fall under his purview.

He will report to Wendy Brundige, currently CNN’s interim chief digital officer.

Before this appointment, Mabry had been the interim svp of CNN digital editorial, taking over from Meredith Artley, who left the network in May.

Since then, Mabry has been part of the leadership team involved with CNN’s newsgathering integration work. This team included recently appointed EVP of editorial, Virginia Mosley, CNN Digital’s SVP of global news, Rachel Smolkin, and the aforementioned Brundige.

Mabry will continue working in partnership with Smolkin and her digital newsgathering team and represent Digital Editorial on CNN’s digital leadership team.

“This is an honor,” Mabry said in a statement. “Not many boys raised by a single mom in Trenton get to occupy these positions of responsibility in American journalism. I could not be more excited to lead these talented teams at such a consequential time for our platforms, our network, and our world.”

Mabry has been with CNN since 2016, joining the network as the director of mobile.
