‘Made in America’ Inspires American Companies to Shower ABC’s ‘World News’ with Gifts

By Merrill Knox

Since ABC’s “World News with Diane Sawyer” debuted its “Made in America” series this spring, the show’s producers have been flooded with mail and gifts from across the country, sent in by companies to spotlight their own American-made goodies.

The “World News” staff has been sent everything from ceramic bowls to birdhouses (like the one executive producer Jon Banner holds here, from Lazy Hill Farm Designs in Maine) to swimwear.

Companies featured on the segment, which has profiled American-made products from clothing to furniture to bakeware, have seen a spike in sales after being featured on ABC. Show producers donate all the items they are sent to charity.
