Yesterday, CBS Evening News EP Rick Kaplan said of Dan Rather, “this is someone who should go through his life quietly.”
But “Rather was thought of very differently by Rick Kaplan back in 2005,” Neil Cavuto noted on FNC yesterday. Cavuto played a clip from an awards dinner where Kaplan congratulated Rather:
“His legacy… is the gold standard in journalism today,” Kaplan said then. “Many have struggled to live up to it. Working to serve the needs of his fellow citizens is admirable. This is how he deserves to be spoken of. I am very proud of my good friend. Thank you, Dan, we have all benefited by your great work.”
