London 7/7: CBS’s MacVicar On The Scene

By Brian

CBS News was the first network to get a correspondent on the air from the scene of the London bombings. According to an anonymous tipster: “Sheila MacVicar was working on an unrelated story when she got news of the bombing. She rushed to the scene and got on the air quickly — the first of many reports that morning. Following on her heels, the satellite truck operator had to talk his way through many check points in order to meet her at the scene, and as you all saw, he was successful in his efforts. It was a triumph for us to have Sheila in place and on the air before any of the correspondents from the other networks could get to the scene,” the insider says. She taped a situationer for Newspath in between her network live shots, in time for the noon affiliate shows.
