Retiring “Late Show” host David Letterman told his audience at Monday’s taping that he’d asked suspended NBC News anchor Brian Williams to return as a guest for one of Letterman’s final shows.
David Itzkoff, a reporter for The New York Times said Letterman doesn’t know if Williams would be willing or able to appear on the show:
2 interesting things Dave @Letterman said at tonite's taping: has asked Brian Williams to be guest on final shows; he hasn't said y or n.

Williams, a frequent Letterman guest, made extended comments about his wartime experience in Iraq in an appearance on the show in 2013. Williams canceled an appearance on “Late Show” scheduled for days after the Iraq story broke.
According to Itzkoff, Letterman also extended an invitation to Jay Leno to bury the hatchet in an appearance on “Late Show” ahead of Letterman’s retirement.
