Lester Holt Wins First Week as Anchor of NBC Nightly News; World News Tonight Wins Q2

By Chris Ariens

In his first official week as anchor of the NBC Nightly News, Lester Holt was No. 1 in all categories, even building on the audience from the same week last year: up +1 percent in viewers and up +3 in the A25-54 demo. Holt drew Nightly’s biggest audience in more than two months and widest total viewer lead over ABC in over three months.

And while Holt may have won his first week, ABC’s World News Tonight with David Muir has taken the second quarter of 2015 in both total viewers and the A25-54 demo. In fact, this was ABC’s first Q2 win in viewers in 8 years. The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley had its best second quarter in 9 years (since Q2 2006). CBS finds itself in the closest competitive position to NBC in a second quarter in 14 years.
