NBC News, MSNBC and Telemundo have announced the journalists who will moderate the first Democratic presidential primary debates for the 2020 election cycle, and there are a lot of them: Lester Holt, Savannah Guthrie, Chuck Todd, Rachel Maddow, and José Díaz-Balart.
The quintet will play referee for what is sure to be a robust debate featuring nearly 20 candidates set to take place on Wednesday June 26 and Thursday June 27 at the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami.
The prime time events will be broadcast live across all three networks with real-time Spanish-language translations on Telemundo.
It’s the first time a Spanish-language media outlet has been a partner for a first primary debate. Univision will partner with ABC News to host the third Democratic primary debate in September.
In addition, the two-night event will also be streamed for free on NBC News’ digital properties, including NBCNews.com, MSNBC.com, NBC News Mobile App, and OTT apps in addition to Telemundo’s digital platforms.
The format for both debate nights will be the same. Holt will appear in both hours of the debate each night including moderating the first hour with Guthrie and Diaz-Balart. Holt will be joined by Todd and Maddow in the second hour.
