Lawrence O’Donnell: Appoint Me Interim Senator From Massachusetts

By Alex Weprin

MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell threw his own name into the ring to become the next Senator from the state of Massachusetts. On “The Last Word,” O’Donnell said that he is the perfect person to be appointed to the now-vacant U.S. Senate seat, at least until the next election, when Rep. Ed Markey is expected to run for it.

“I cannot believe it has come to this, that I have to float my own name to get in this mix for this Senate appointment,” O’Donnell said on his show. “You know how embarrassing this is?”

O’Donnell, as it happens, is a Massachusetts native, and the former chief of staff on the Senate Finance Committee, which the replacement Senator would likely serve on.
