Legendary local newsman Stan Chambers announced his retirement from KTLA after 63 years with the station. He made the announcement on Wednesday, his 87th birthday.
Chambers 1949 reporting on a child who’d fallen into an abandoned well is recognized as the first live coverage of a breaking news story. He was also there for the first live telecast of an atomic bomb test.
