Kolbe v. Cable News Network: The Trial Continues

By Alissa Krinsky

The Marina Kolbe/CNN court case continues today in U.S. District Court in Georgia. Kolbe, suing CNN for not renewing her contract in 2003, alleges that the network bypassed her in favor of hiring younger, minority talent. CNN has told TVNewser it “did not discriminate against Marina Kolbe in any way.”

The Fulton County (GA) Daily Report has an update on proceedings: “The jury of six white women and a black man won’t be able to make personal evaluations of Kolbe’s on-camera performances, following a judicial order that bars both sides from introducing on-air clips of her…Viewer ratings also are absent in the case; neither side has introduced formal ratings measuring Kolbe’s popularity with audiences.”

The paper says the trial is expected to conclude this week.
