Katrina/Rita: New Orleans Is “One Of The Saddest Places On Earth”

By Brian

Brian Williams‘ closing note from tonight’s NBC Nightly News:

“Finally tonight a word about this city…and what it was like arriving back here today…and looking out at rising water.

One man from the devastated Lower Ninth Ward said: its like looking at a murder. The first time is bad, he said; now we’re numb.

Most of the media attention now shifts up the gulf to the north. Some of the relief effort here has already gone there.

The suffering here is so great. No one could imagine it getting any worse…right up until the water started washing over the levee today, filling up parts of New Orleans again. People used to come here to have fun.. and now: especially tonight, its one of the saddest places on earth.”
