Katrina: “The City Died Here With Him,” Shep Smith Says

Shep Smith made me tear up today. His report from Interstate 10 outside of New Orleans, with a dead man lying on the pavement behind him, sent shivers up my spine. Here’s what he said:

“This is the road refugees have taken for three days now, trying to make their way to the center of the city to the Superdome.

So many did not make it. This man is one of those. Someone has clothed him, covered him, put a blanket over his upper body, and let him dead in the city that died here with him.”
