Katie vs. Keith

By Chris Ariens

Keith Olbermann’s defense of a current colleague, while trashing a former colleague is reverberating in several newsrooms today. Last night, Olbermann named Katie Couric his worst person in the world because of something she said during a talk she gave on Tuesday. Couric took a swipe, though unnamed, at NBC News correspondent Lee Cowan.

Couric talked about a “prominent member of the commentariat” who said he “found it hard to be objective when it came to Obama.”

“That’s your job,” the CBS News anchor said, then suggested he “find another line of work.”

Well last night Olbermann went off:

As to her advice that a reporter like Lee Cowan, who was her colleague at CBS for nearly a year, should find another line of work, it is sadly obvious that in leaving NBC and the Today show, Ms. Couric already has.

Couric’s personal publicist Matthew Hiltzik tells TVNewser, “Katie’s remarks speak for themselves.”

And what makes this even more interesting is that Couric is very close to NBCU CEO Jeff Zucker, Olbermann’s boss’s, boss’s boss. We’re told he’s not likely to comment on the matter.
