Jon Stewart Skewers News Media for Going ‘All In’ on Clinton’s Chipotle Lunch

By Mark Joyella

“The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart got handed quite a comedic gift when video emerged showing Hillary Clinton ordering a burrito bowl at Chipotle. Because, obvs, that’s a pretty big story–and cable news was all over it–even, as Stewart pointed out, at the expense of covering the announcement of Marco Rubio‘s campaign. “Oh, bad luck,” Stewart said. “How could Rubio have known on the exact day he was launching his candidacy, Hillary Clinton would eat lunch?”

The ridiculousness of the coverage–played out in clip after clip of reporters acting as if Clinton had revealed a taste for tiger’s blood smoothies–showed just how off key much political news coverage is. “The news media didn’t just cover Secretary Clinton’s fast food choice, they went all in.”

sim“I assume CNN went full Malaysian airplane on this, with a computer simulation of how witnesses said the order might have gone down, and then correspondent Tom Foreman analyzing the likely contents of the burrito itself.”
