John King Makes It 50 States; ‘SOTU’ EP Heading to 7pm Show

In roughly one year’s time, CNN’s John King managed to travel to all 50 states for his program, “State of the Union,” culminating with a trip to Jackson, Wyoming for a segment that aired yesterday.

“It’s not just a gimmick to say we went to all 50 states,” King told the AP. “It’s worth doing because we learned so much. My body is a little beat up, but I wouldn’t trade this for the world.”

The Baltimore Sun’s David Zurawik praised King’s work and travel. “The segments that aired under the banners ‘American Dispatch’ and ‘CNN Diner’ included some of the best and most resonant journalism done in television the last 12 months,” he wrote.

If you’re a fan of “State of the Union,” you’ll be happy to know his new weekday program now has another thing in common with the Sunday show he’s departing. TVNewser has just learned that “State of the Union” Executive Producer Michelle Jaconi will head over to EP the new political program King will host in the 7pmET time slot starting in mid-February. Jaconi came to “SOTU” last February from NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
