Job Cuts at Meredith Vieira Show

By Chris Ariens

There have been layoffs at The Meredith Vieira Show as the program wraps up its first season this week. Without elaborating on how many employees were cut, a spokesperson tells TVNewser, “Due to the changing and evolving format of the show, a number of production positions have become redundant.”

Meredith was renewed for season two last October. As a production of NBC, it airs on all NBC Owned stations and has been picked up for season two on stations owned by Hearst, Sinclair, Graham Media, Hubbard, Scripps, and Media General among others.

Staffers will work through the summer preparing a season two that may look and feel different than season one, we’re told.

Vieira, the former The View and Today show co-host, also hosts other specials for NBC including the Countdown to the Globes special earlier this year. She was also front and center for NBC’s Sochi Olympics coverage and even sat in for Bob Costas in prime time.
