Jim Murphy Promoted to VP of CNN Morning Programming

Jim Murphy is getting a promotion at CNN.

In his morning editorial meeting, CNN Worldwide chief Jeff Zucker announced Murphy was being promoted to VP of morning programming for CNN U.S. Murphy is currently senior EP of “Early Start” and “New Day.”

Last month, Javier Morgado was named EP of “New Day.” Ted Winner, who was the manager for CNN’s weekend live programming in Atlanta, will move to New York where he will take on the senior broadcast producer role for “New Day.”

The news comes a day after Zucker announced the promotion of John Antonio to VP of daytime programming.

Murphy joined CNN two years ago this month. Before that, he oversaw Anderson Cooper‘s syndicated show. From 2006-2011 he was EP of ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Murphy spent most of his career at CBS News, joining as a segment producer in 1993. He moved up the ranks first at “48 Hours,” then as senior broadcast producer and executive producer of “CBS This Morning,” and in 2000 was named EP of the “CBS Evening News with Dan Rather.”
