Preliminary overnight numbers are in and, thanks to a little help from “Dancing with the Stars” and a hyped exclusive interview with Jesse James, ABC’s “Nightline” saw its best ratings since the program’s relaunch on November 28, 2005.

“Nightline” drew 6.82 million viewers at 11:35pm last evening and a 2.29 rating in the A25-54 demo. For comparison, NBC’s “Tonight” show drew 3.69 million viewers (1.43 rating) and CBS’ “Late Show” drew 3.45 million (1.21 rating) for their hour-long broadcasts.

Despite drawing its smallest audience yet for a finale, DWTS still drew nearly 20 million total viewers for the big finish last night.
