Jeff Zucker Joins Board of Group Nine Media’s Newly-Formed Acquisition Company

CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker is preparing for life after CNN.

At least one of those pursuits will include serving on the board of Group Nine Acquisition Corp., a newly organized, acquisition company formed by digital media company Group Nine Media Inc. Today, the company announced that it has named Zucker to its board of directors.

Zucker join the other independent members of GNAC’s board of directors: Dick Parsons, former chairman of Citigroup and former chairman and CEO of Time Warner; and Jen Wong, COO of Reddit.

Also joining Zucker on the GNAC board is Mindy Mount, Vice Chair of Technicolor SA.

Zucker said in a statement: “I have been a big fan of Group Nine Media’s work for years and recognize the unique opportunity that exists in consolidating the digital sector. I know that Ben [GNAC chairman and CEO Lerer] and his team understand implicitly both where the digital industry is headed and what it takes to build a category defining company. I am thrilled to join Dick, Jen, Mindy and the Group Nine team on the board.”

The aforementioned Group Nine Media CEO Ben Lerer leads GNAC as CEO and chairman. Group Nine Media president Brian Sugar is president and director.

Group Nine has an attractive portfolio of digital media brands, which include Thrillist, NowThis, PopSugar, The Dodo, and Seeker, and with the creation of GNAC, it could become a buyer of more media companies. The company could also potentially combine with a company it buys and then go public.
