Jeff Glor Interviewed President Trump Today, and Will Have a Follow-up on Wednesday

By A.J. Katz

CBS Evening News anchor Jeff Glor interviewed President Trump at his golf club in Scotland today ahead of Monday’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

An excerpt from Glor’s interview with Trump will air tomorrow morning on Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan, with more airing Monday on CBS This Morning, and then on the CBS Evening News Monday night.

Glor managed to snag not one but two interviews with the president. His post-summit follow up will take place Wednesday at the White House, and will air that night on the CBS Evening News.

These interviews are big for Glor, the proverbial new kid on the block as far as evening news anchors go. Glor, 43, took on permanent CBS Evening News anchor duties in December, with CBS News president David Rhodes referring to him at the time as “the right man to lead CBS Evening News into a digital future.” Glor was the original anchor for CBSN, CBS News’s 24/7 streaming news network, when it launched in 2014. Anthony Mason was the temporary bridge between Glor and Scott Pelley, who moved from the evening newscast exclusively to 60 Minutes in June of last year. The newscast remains in third place.

President Trump seems to be a bit more willing to be interviewed by network news anchors these days after going more than a year without granting one. Glor’s interviews with Trump come about a month after Potus sat down with ABC News chief anchor George Stephanopoulos at the U.S.-North Korea summit in Singapore. But these are the first interviews Trump has given to an evening news anchor since NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt‘s May 2017 interview in the White House, where he told Holt the Russia investigation played a role in his decision to fire former FBI director James Comey.
