Jay Shaylor Named Senior Producer at ‘GMA’

By Merrill Knox

TVNewser has obtained an ABC internal memo announcing Jay Shaylor’s promotion to senior producer for overnight operations at “Good Morning America.”

“This is a critical role on the show in preparing us for the day ahead,” James Goldston, executive producer of “GMA,” wrote in the memo, adding that Shaylor, currently a producer for the ABC morning show, will work “to ensure that we have the best possible show ready for the morning, that all of our pieces are coming together in the right way, and that we are first on every big breaking story.”

I am very pleased to announce that Jay Shaylor has been appointed Senior Producer for our overnight operation. This is a critical role on the show in preparing us for the day ahead. He will take the baton from the daytime team and work closely with Angela Ellis and Mike Noble on the desk to ensure that we have the best possible show ready for the morning, that all of our pieces are coming together in the right way, and that we are first on every big breaking story.

As we all know, Jay is a great journalist with a wealth of experience and a tremendous attention to detail. Jay has worked on both sides of the camera. He started in television as a one-man-band and was an on-air reporter in Virginia covering state politics and investigations before joining Good Morning America in 2006. Since arriving at GMA, he has covered nearly every breaking news story for the network.

This year alone he traveled to Japan to cover the earthquake and tsunami, produced our coverage of the Casey Anthony verdict in Orlando with George and led GMA’s coverage of the tornado in Joplin, Missouri with Josh Elliott. He will play a major part in continuing our progress towards true excellence and first place in the months to come.

Please join me in congratulating Jay. He joins the rim on Sunday.

James
