Jay Mariotti Charged With Seven Misdemeanors

By Marcus Vanderberg

So much for Jay Mariotti dodging that major bullet.

Mariotti escaped felony charges from the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office, but city prosecutors have charged the 51-year-old sports personality with seven misdemeanors including false imprisonment, grand theft and vandalism.

Mariotti also faces two counts of domestic violence with injury and two counts of domestic violence. Each count carries a maximum of one year in jail, which means he could see seven years behind bars if convicted on all counts.

He will be arraigned in court on Friday.

The charges stem from an Aug. 21 incident with his girlfriend at the couple’s Venice, Calif. condo after the two reportedly got into an argument at a nightclub earlier in the evening.

According to LAPD sources, Mariotti shoved his girlfriend and grabbed her arm, which left marks. He was reportedly upset because his girlfriend flirted with another guy at the club.

Marioitti was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic assault and released from jail on $50,000 bail.

Mariotti’s return to ESPN’s Around The Horn or Aol’s Fanhouse appears bleak at best considering his absence from both platforms following his arrest.
