Ratings: CNN, FNC See Ratings Bump During Earthquake Coverage Friday

On Friday we reported the first late night numbers from the cable network earthquake coverage, from 1-3 AM. We will have the full Friday ratings grid up tomorrow, but today we have some additional numbers from Nielsen.

From 3AM ET Friday to 3 AM ET Saturday, CNN and Fox News both saw massive ratings bumps, with CNN being the biggest beneficiary:

CNN: 2.276M total viewers/1.008M adults 25-54

Fox News: 2.096M total viewers/659,000 adults 25-54

MSNBC: 588,000 total viewers/ 199,000 adults 25-54

In primetime (8-11PM) Friday Fox News took the top slot in total viewers, but CNN led the way in the key demo:

CNN: 2.651M total viewers/1.166M adults 25-54

Fox News: 2.727M total viewers/757,000 adults 25-54

MSNBC: 931,000 total viewers/331,000 adults 25-54

From 6-9AM, when”Morning Joe” covered politics in addition to the earthquake, while FNC and CNN exclusively covered the earthquake, MSNBC saw its worst performance of the day:

Fox News: 2.005M total viewers/ 768,000 adults 25-54

CNN: 1.510M total viewers/760,000 adults 25-54

MSNBC: 510,000 total viewers/145,000 adults 25-54
