Jake Tapper’s First Novel Will Hit Bookstores Next Year

By A.J. Katz

The year of Jake Tapper continues. The anchor of CNN’s The Lead, State of the Union, as well as the network’s chief Washington correspondent is working on his first novel, and it’s set to debut in the summer of 2018.

According to The Associated Press, The Hellfire Club is set in Washington, D.C., in 1954, and centers on a young congressman from New York, and his zoologist wife.

“Amid the swirl of glamorous and powerful political leaders and deal makers, a mysterious fatal car accident thrusts Charlie and Margaret into an underworld of secret deals, secret societies, and a plot that could change the course of history,” the publishing house Little, Brown & Company told the AP.

The newsman-novelist said in a statement that the book would feature historical icons such as Pres. Dwight Eisenhower, Sen. Joe McCarthy and then-Vice President Richard Nixon.

Tapper’s previous books are of the non-fiction variety.  The Outpost is a true story of a 2009 deadly American battle in Afghanistan. Down & Dirty is about the hotly-contested 2000 presidential election.

Tapper confirmed the news via Twitter.
