Jake Tapper’s Advice For 2012 Campaign Reporters

By Merrill Knox

ABC senior White House correspondent Jake Tapper has reported on his share of presidential campaigns. As the Republican candidates descended on Iowa this week, Tapper offered up some advice — exactly 13 pieces of it, to be exact — to young 2012 reporters embarking on their first campaigns, including:

  • No. 13 – Do not rely upon the hotel wake-up call. And don’t forget time zones.
  • No. 6 – If you make it to South Carolina without being yelled at by the campaign you’re not doing your job.
  • No 5 – Keep your eyes peeled. I met my future wife at the Chequers Pub at the Hotel Fort Des Moines.
