Jake Tapper On His ‘This Week’ Run: ‘We Did Pretty Well’

By Alex Weprin

This Sunday’s edition of “This Week” will be the last anchored by ABC News White House Correspondent Jake Tapper, with Christiane Amanpour set to take over the reigns August 1.

Politico talks to Tapper about his time anchoring the program:

“For a four month run, we did pretty well,” Tapper told POLITICO. “I’ve never gotten to really run anything at ABC News. … There’s a tremendous amount of thought and preparation when it comes to interviews, when it comes to the roundtables, when it comes to booking guests. Most of the work is before the show – I think I wasn’t necessarily prepared for that.”

In his short time at the helm of “This Week” Tapper started encouraging viewers to follow the program on Twitter as it aired, and famously partnered with Politifact to fact-check the program.

In the interview Tapper is also asked whether he has any advice for Amanpour:

“I’m sure she’ll do a great job and doesn’t need any advice from me,” he said. “She has a very celebrated career and I’m sure she’ll do fantastically.”
