Is the SEC Key to College Football Ratings?

By Noah Davis

Lost in all this talk about excellent NFL ratings is the fact that there’s another football season going on. Yeah, college.

So how is the NFL’s “amateur” baby brother holding up? Well… they are up and down.

NBC’s Notre Dame schedule hasn’t fared well, posting its lowest-rated game since 2007. But that’s okay because nobody, not even Rudy, cares about Fighting Irish football anymore.

Elsewhere, things are better. CBS scored with its coverage of the SEC, posting three straight ratings of over five until last weekend’s Arkansas/Auburn debacle ruined that nice run. ESPN had a nice showing with its Florida/LSU match earlier in October.

On the other hand, ABC’s Saturday Night Football franchise and its weekend day game have generally been off compared to last season.

The takeaway: SEC. SEC. SEC. It’s the best conference in terms of play and the best for television networks.
