Is Roger Ailes Trying to Scoop Fox News Tell-All?

By Chris Ariens

The Daily News reports a second book about the rise of Fox News Channel and its chairman and co-founder Roger Ailes is in the works. We’ve been telling you about Gabriel Sherman’s book tentatively titled, “The Loudest Voice in the Room: An Inside Account of the Rise of Fox News.” The second book, from conservative writer Zev Chafets, could come out later this year, ahead of Sherman’s.

Given the author’s perspective and the cooperation he’s getting, one source characterized Chafets’ book “as a way for Ailes to scoop Sherman.” Another source says: “I don’t know if Ailes went to Chafets or vice versa, but either way, Roger is now helping him.” The source added that Ailes “may even be urging Fox News executives to participate.”

A few months ago Sherman wrote in New York magazine that Ailes was penning an autobiography. At the time Fox News didn’t deny it, but told TVNewser, “There is one source with direct knowledge of Roger’s plans — and that’s Roger himself. Since Roger has never spoken to Gabe in his life, we continue to be fascinated with Gabe’s uncanny ability to read his mind.”
