Is NBC Looking to Give Billy Bush Major Role at Today?

Could Access Hollywood host Billy Bush be moving to the 9 a.m. ET hour of Today?

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter despite having signed a new deal with Access, Bush is being “courted” to join Today as the “lead host” of the 9 o’clock hour:

Hiring Bush would signal both a further tilt toward celebrity coverage and away from traditional news at that hour and the likely end of rumors about Josh Elliot taking on a major role at Today. Access producers are said to have already put out feelers about possible replacements for Bush should he decide to head east. (NBC declined comment.)

NBC continues to focus on Today as the morning show makes progress in its battle to reclaim the top-rated title from rival Good Morning America. “What is going on at the moment at Today is getting everything right for Rio,” Andrew Tyndall told THR. “That is when I expect it to be able to cash in conclusively on GMA’s slippage.”
