Intl. Consortium of Investigative Journos Awards ABC News For Congo Reporting

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists has awarded its annual prize for investigative journalism to ABC Newsers Brian Ross, David Wilson Scott and Rhonda Schwartz for their 20/20 segment “Peace at What Price.” It explored “the pervasive sexual misconduct by U.N. peacekeepers, officials and civilian staff in the Democratic Republic of Congo.”

The ICIJ says the reporting “has since been acknowledged by the Congress of the United States and by human rights and child protection groups as providing some of the first hard evidence of the true scope of the problem and the reticence of the United Nations to address it.”

The first-place prize includes a $20,000 award.
