Katie Nelson joins ABC in a new role for the news division: executive producer of ABC News Content.
She’ll lead editorial coverage for distribution across ABC News sites, apps, social media, streaming services and emerging platforms, reporting to Colby Smith VP of digital media for the Disney/ABC TV group.
“Katie will oversee daily news operations and help us develop innovative ways to tell stories that resonate with these important and rapidly growing audiences,” said ABC News president James Goldston in a note to staff.
Nelson joins from HuffPost where she was news director.
“She possesses an impeccable news sense, a passion for digital storytelling and creativity, and the experience of a seasoned beat reporter,” Goldston writes.
The news comes as the Disney/ABC TV Group is looking to cut up to 300 staffers across the 10,000-strong company.
Nelson starts Tuesday.
