In an interview that touched on war, politics and the death of his son, Vice President Joe Biden took a moment to thank CBS This Morning co-host Charlie Rose for having an “actual conversation,” telling Rose “you’re the best.”

The extensive interview–an excerpt of which aired Monday on the CBS Evening News–was broadcast Tuesday morning. Biden discussed what he described as his genuine friendship with President Obama, describing the personal conversations the two had after the death of Biden’s son, Beau. “He was there for my son. He was the only one, when my son was dying that I was able to be completely candid with.”

When Rose thanked Biden for taking more time than had been planned (“Your entire staff hates me,” Rose joked), Biden said “I think you’re the best, pal. I mean … an actual conversation and I appreciate that.”
