Hurricane Dean: Morning Reports

As of the 8amET advisory, Hurricane Dean is a cat 3 storm. But it came ashore as a rare category 5 along the Yucatan peninsula.

The Today show’s Al Roker is reporting live from Chetumal, Mexico, the city closest to the eye’s landfall. CNN’s Harris Whitbeck is also reporting from the town. Other correspondents, including CNN’s Rob Marciano below, are to the north in tourist towns including Cancun. The resort area was spared the brunt of the storm, but the surge was evident in live shots.
