Former DNC chairman and 2004 presidential candidate Howard Dean has joined CNBC as a contributor. The news was announced this morning by Joe Kernen, while Dean filled in as co-host of Squawk Box.
Kernen introduced Dean, saying “as of today, is a CNBC contributor.” “That should terrify you!” joked Dean.
And Kernen had some advice for the former Vermont Governor — get those Dean Screams ready. “I’m not saying we want you to tone it down, necessarily, but — actually we don’t. This is cable. You need to ratchet it up a little bit,” said Kernen.

There’s no word yet which programs Dean will contribute to regularly.
> Update: Politico talked to Dean about the new job. He says he’s “going to be neutral” in the Cramer/Stewart story.
