NBC Nightly News devoted two minutes to what was described in a graphic as the “Trump Firestorm.” Nightly News anchor Lester Holt introduced a Katy Tur package by saying “there is new fallout for Donald Trump–it involves this network.”
Earlier in the day, NBC announced it would cut ties with its longtime TV partner, saying in a statement “at NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values. Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump.”
Trump later called NBC “weak,” and suggested the network was “trying to be politically correct.” Trump also took a swipe at the network over the recent decision to keep former NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams at the network. “They will stand behind lying Brian Williams, but won’t stand behind people that tell it like it is, as unpleasant as that may be,” he said.
