Barbara Walters Is Digging Up the Past

By Chris Ariens

Remember the Menendez brothers? How about Kimberly Mays? You must recall Kato Kaelin?

Barbara Walters remembers them all. She covered these people and the national headlines they made in her 50+ years in TV news. So, for her new Investigation Discovery show, debuting Monday night, Walters looks back on some of the more sensational stories of the late 20th century.

Barbara Walters Presents American Scandals, a 9-part series on ID, begins with the story of JonBenét Ramsey, a 6-year old murdered in her Colorado home in December 1996. Walters updates the still-unsolved murder with a new interview with JonBenét’s father John Ramsey, who was a suspect in the case, and his new wife, Jan.

Because Walters was front and center when these stories were making daily headlines, producers have dug up her famous one-on-one interviews. From her disturbing interview with John Lennon’s killer, Mark David Chapman to Jim Bakker’s tearful confessions which led to the downfall and imprisonment of the former evangelical TV preacher.

The show will air Mondays at 10 p.m. ET, culminating Dec. 28 with the story of Robert Blake. Remember him? ABC’s Lincoln Square Productions is producing the series for ID.
