How Andrea Mitchell Factored in Hillary Clinton’s Benghazi Testimony

During Hillary Clinton‘s appearance before the House Select Committee on Benghazi, NBC’s Andrea Mitchell made a cameo appearance, effectively being used as a political pawn. Democratic Rep. Linda Sanchez played a clip from Sunday’s Meet the Press in which Mitchell challenged Republican Rep. Mike Pompeo, who is also on the select committee, after he said on the show: “Former Secretary Clinton relied on Mr. [Sydney] Blumenthal for most of her intelligence.”

Mitchell jumped in: “That is factually not correct…relied on Mr. Blumenthal for most of her intelligence? That’s just – I cover the State Department. That is just factually not correct.”

After playing the clip, Clinton chuckled, then Sanchez lobbed a softball at her: “Secretary Clinton what did you think when you heard that clip?”

“Well that it was factually untrue,” said Clinton.

Interestingly, the clip was played during the time Mitchell would have been anchoring her MSNBC show, but wasn’t because all the cablers were covering the Benghazi hearing wall-to-wall.
