House Speaker Chaos Gives Impressive Spike to Cable Shows

On Thursday, The Intelligence Report with Trish Regan, FBN’s 2 p.m. ET program, had its highest-rated show ever. A few hours later on MSNBC, Chuck Todd‘s 2-week old MTP Daily outdrew CNN’s long-running Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.

The two viewership spikes are due in large part to the breaking news from Capitol Hill which saw leading House Speaker candidate Kevin McCarthy step aside just before a vote was to occur.

Regan’s show, which launched in June, averaged 152,000 total viewers. It averaged 41,000 in the A25-54 demo, enough to top CNBC’s 2pm hour of Power Lunch in the demo which average 34,000.

Todd’s MTP Daily drew 547,000 viewers to CNN’s 539,000. MTP Daily was still 4th (after FNC, CNN and HLN) in the demo for the hour.
