“Heroes” is Ratings Kryptonite During Replays

CNN replayed their nearly three-hour “Heroes” special three times (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) in prime time at 8pmET, and each continued the trend of poor ratings for the program.

Friday was the worst night for the Anderson Cooper and Christiane Amanpour-hosted event. The low numbers in the A25-54 demo sent CNN’s prime time (total viewers & A25-54) to drop well behind Headline News for fourth place.

Saturday was the best of the repeat showings, but only enough to manage third place prime finish (total viewers & A25-54). Sunday’s showing also put CNN in third place during prime (total viewers & A25-54).

The weekend numbers were down significantly from CNN’s previous month’s ratings, and CNN dropped out of the weekly top 30 cable networks during prime time last week.

CNN/U.S. President Jon Klein told TVNewser “Heroes” would be a winner no matter what the ratings showed, and that plans are already in the works for next year. From those who watched, many seemed to have very positive reactions. However, with the numbers coming back extremely low, will there be adjustments in how it’s aired?
