Here We Go Again: World News Tonight With Diane Sawyer?

By Brian

I’m not exactly confident in the credibility of these two stories, but the juxtaposition is striking:

“Sawyer Wants ‘World News Tonight'”

Diane Sawyer told friends and ABC colleagues last week that she wants to anchor ‘World News Tonight,’ and STAT,” TMZ says. One of their sources called Sawyer “obsessed” with getting the job. The site says there “were numerous high-level meetings at ABC in New York this past Thursday and Friday.” “The sources say that Charles Gibson, Sawyer’s GMA co-anchor, was extremely unhappy last week that Sawyer wants to succeed Peter Jennings…”

“World News Tonight Viewership Down since Sawyer, Gibson Joined”

That’s the headline on Media Buyer Planner, linking to this story in Media Life Magazine titled “And a ho-hum to Gibson and Sawyer.” The piece describes a “ratings slide” for ABC’s World News Tonight” and declares that “it’s apparent Sawyer and Gibson may not have been the best choices” to fill in for Bob Woodruff.
