Bob Schieffer became anchor of the CBS Evening News one year ago today. Friday’s USA Today includes this editorial titled “Old hand draws new viewers.” It praises Schieffer and says that his broadcast’s ratings gains suggest that “integrity and experience sell.”
The ed board wonders if “viewers do not share the opinion, apparently gospel among network executives, that news anchors should look like movie stars.”
And it concludes: “In an age when too much of TV news is either glitz or rant, Schieffer does it right. Too bad he’s only a temp.”
