Reporters who landed interviews Tuesday with freshly-announced Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul were given an embargo–forced to hold their interviews until 10 p.m. ET–when Sean Hannity‘s show runs on the Fox News Channel. Paul–and fellow announced GOP candidate Ted Cruz–gave Hannity their first live interviews after making their bids official.

The decisions by both candidates to give their first interviews to Hannity demonstrates just how much influence the conservative pundit still holds over the insurgent wing of the Republican party. In addition to hosting the popular prime-time program, Hannity is the second-most popular talk radio host in the country after Rush Limbaugh.
