Friday marked National Medal of Honor Day, and Fox News Channel host Greta Van Susteren, and every year Medal of Honor recipients–the “bravest of the brave,” Van Susteren said–gather at Arlington National Cemetery. “What an honor. Actually, what a thrill to spend a day with these heroes,” Van Susteren said in a segment on Friday’s On the Record.
Van Susteren replaced MSNBC’s Brian Williams on the foundation’s board of directors last September, and Friday she served as master of ceremonies for the group’s annual Citizen Honors Awards, which honors civilians who have served their communities above and beyond the call of duty.
Among the winners this year was Myles Eckert of Toledo, Ohio, who is the first kid to become a Citizen Honors Award recipient. Eckert was profiled by CBS News correspondent Steve Hartman:
