Greta Van Susteren Questions Juan Williams’ ‘Intellectual Stage’ Comments

By Alex Weprin

On “Fox News Sunday,” Fox News contributor Juan Williams said of fellow FNC contributor (and possible 2012 Republican presidential candidate) Sarah Palin:

“There is nobody out there except for Sarah Palin who could absolutely dominate the stage and she can’t stand on the intellectual stage with Obama.”

The Huffington Post picked it up, and the comment has been making the rounds on the political blogs since. Last night, Fox News “On the Record” host Greta Van Susteren took to her popular GretaWire blog to weigh in on the matter:

Has Juan interviewed either so as to have any knowledge about which he speaks? or is he just talking? Knowing if he interviewed (first hand knowledge) either and to what depth can help guide you as to whether you should credit his opinion or not. (Incidentally, I don’t know if he has….maybe he has.)

What do you think? Should commentators have to have first-hand experience with subjects to pass judgment? Or are people like Palin and Obama such public figures that they should be exempt from such rules? Certainly most TV news pundits would be out of the job if first-hand knowledge with the people they talk about was a requirement…
